Palace Wedding Venue History
Addington Palace has a rich history dating way back to the 16th Century. This blog post gives you the history of this now beautiful wedding venue – but it hasn’t always been a wedding venue!
HISTORY OF ADDINGTON PALACE
Originally built in the 16th Century as ‘Addington Place’ and owned by Sir John Leigh and family until the early 18th Century. King Henry VIII supposedly courted Anne Boleyn and had a hunting lodge here before the palace became a residence for six Archbishops of Canterbury throughout the 19th Century. The building also became residence for the Royal School of Church Music housing generations of musicians from all around Britain during their training. They even sang at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953!
And that is not the only regal associations with Addington Palace. The venue welcomed the Queen Mother for a royal visit in 1982, and more recently a luxurious, auspicious banquet for HM The Queen and HRH Prince Philip as part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations in 2002. It really is a venue fit for royalty!
